Finding Contentment in Marriage

"Arriving at Old Fox Ranch, Julie calmed herself, as she didn’t want to worry Eric. She parked her Jeep behind his black truck and stepped out. Off in the distance, Eric stood by a fence, pounding a nail. His two men worked on either of Eric. She ambled to her husband.
“Evening, Julie.” John straightened his brown Stetson as a smile danced on his lips. A lock of black hair peeked from under his hat.
“Hi, John.”
Eric straightened and studied her. Concern flitted across his eyes. “Are you okay? You look upset.” He held her, but she pulled away. She couldn’t look at him. “What’s wrong?” He turned her to look at him. “Please tell me, honey. Did something happen at work?” He brushed back a strand of hair from her face.
“Me,” she moaned as she toddled to the house. She didn’t deserve his love. Instead of finding contentment in their marriage, she resented it. But she wasn’t angry with him. Eric had been nothing but good to her."

Have you felt that way? You love your husband, but you don't feel fulfilled? Paul wrote in the letter to the the Corinthians that it is better not to marry. That may be a hard pill to swallow, especially for me. I have been single all my life, and yet later Paul even admitted some of this gift and some have that gift. He is not saying that we should all be single or seek divorce. God is not the author of divorce and neither did God want man to live alone. If he did, God would not inspired Moses to write that God created a help mate for Adam. God created man for woman and man for woman.(1Cor 11:11 Loosely translated)
God created woman to help man in his work on earth. In the  NLT, it states, "But among the Lord's people, women are not independent of men, and men are not independent of women."  Earlier in the same later Paul said that marriage will not solve all problems, which was why Paul said it was better not to marry. He was giving his concession not a command from the Lord.
How do you find contentment in marriage? First, you find it in Jesus Christ. Paul wrote elsewhere that true godliness with contentment is great gain. God is being like God in his nature. In the same letter Paul told the readers what God is like or not like. Because God is love, you just replace love with God. "God is kind, God is not rude..." etc.
We can never find true contentment in the world. So what is contentment? Contentment is accepting where you are and knowing that God is taking care of your needs. Paul said that we should continue to live wherever the Lord placed us and remain where you are when you he called you.  If you are not happy in your marriage, it is time to find contentment in God, and not in your husband or wife. One another note and that is Christ should be center of your marriage, if he is, then your marriage will withstand anything as Julie's marriage did in my book.
