As a single woman, it is hard for me to enjoy Song of Solomon. It's a book that celebrates love between two lovers. The bride sings over her lover and he signs over her. It's like having Valentine's Day in your face, but God changed my view on that.
As I showered, a song I heard on my sister's Song 4 Worship CD came to mind.
It was not the song title, but the lyrics that God quickened into my spirit. You see God rejoices over us just as the groom rejoices over his bride. The scripture says that the church is the bride and he is our bridegroom. The prophet Isaiah describes his rejoicing over us this way: "As the bridegroom rejoices over his bride so will God rejoice over you."(Isaiah 62:5)
God. All three of the trinity will rejoice over us because we are His bride. Don't you like that? God sings over us and He delights in us.
We are God's bride. When you read Song of Solomon see that as God's love for us and our love for us. Because of what Jesus did, he overlooks any flaws in us and sees his son just as Solomon saw his bride as perfect. Granted, that the church is not the perfect spotless bride as a whole, but Jesus took our sins and made us blameless in his sight.
Thank you, Jesus for your sacrifice so that I could be the blameless and spotless bride for you!
Now let's rejoice in Him!
